For as long as I can remember, I've seen myself as the white-hatted sheriff, akin to John Wayne, fighting against the bad guys. The first major thrashing I endured was in first grade when I stepped in to defend a fellow student who was being teased and bullied. Instead of learning to keep to myself after that incident, I continued to feel a strong obligation to help the weak, the downtrodden, and the oppressed. Looking back, that act of assistance in first grade was merely the first of many.

I did not choose immigration law; it chose me. Reflecting on my career years after I had begun practicing law, I realized that through a series of chance events and my mother's help in finding my first job in immigration law, I had found a career that perfectly aligned with my character. I have always valued championing the weak over the strong, the David versus the Goliath. My journey began when I immigrated to the United States in 1979, following the Iranian Revolution. In the new post-revolution Iran, people like me had no place, and I desperately needed a new home. America became that home, but it took over a decade for me to finally gain legal status here, allowing me to finally exhale after years of hardship and uncertainty.
